 It is in good condition throughout, a few cracked panes (very hard to notice) .
 The glass panes are of old glass, which has striations / irregularities in it.
A nice quality piece.

SOLD

A SPLENDID EXAMPLE OF BELGIAN GRISAILLE PATTERN C1890.
HAND PAINTED IN THE ORIGINAL CONTINENTAL GOTHIC STYLE.
THIS PANEL USES THE TECHNIQUE KNOWN AS GRISAILLE (PRONOUNCED "GRIZ-EYE") FROM THE FRENCH WORD "GRIS" MEANING GREY. THE TECHNIQUE INVOLVES FIRST CREATING A PATTERN IN GREY, BLACK AND WHITE AND THEN ADDING COLOUR/STAIN TO ACHIEVE A RICH LUMINOUS RESULT. THIS TECHNIQUE WAS VERY POPULAR IN THE PERIOD OF THE GOTHIC REVIVAL AND WAS USED EXTENSIVELY IN CHURCH AILSES TO FILL LARGE SPACES WITH RICH COLOUR THUS CREATING A WARMING EFFECT.

THIS IS A PARTICULARLY FINE EXAMPLE DEPICTING VINE LEAVES, GRAPES, ACANTHUS LEAVES AND CENTRAL FLORAL DESIGNS.

THE CONDITION IS GOOD
THE PANEL IS IN A WOODEN FRAME FOR HANDLING & SHIPPING PURPOSES.
