IMPORTANT – HOW TO PROTECT YOUR PITCH PINE INTERNAL DOOR

PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AS THEY ARE CONDITIONS OF SALE.

1)     The door must be kept dry and stored flat.

2)     Timber must be sanded and completely finished with varnish or paint of your choice, without delay and prior to hanging. It is important that TOP and BOTTOM edges are completely and fully treated before door is hung.

Both faces all four edges and ‘cut outs’ such as locks ect., also require full treatment.

It is vital the ‘end grain’ is completely protected, as this is where moisture can most easily penetrate causing swelling splitting and warping.

3)     The door should be reduced in size equally from both sides when fitting. Mortice locks fitting at rail joint can result in removal of one or more of the mortice and tenon joints. Mortice lock cavity should be kept to minimum size and not fitted at rail joint.

4)     PAINTING: For best results apply paint with the door lying flat. Apply at least (1) coat of primer (2) of undercoat and (3) top coats. Only top quality paint should be used. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next. For clear varnish, at least 3 coats should be applied following the same procedure recommended for painting.

5)     Staining: For best results apply the stain with the door llying on a flat surfice. It is recommended that a good quality stain is used. For application, closely follow the manufactures instructions, a minimum of (2) base coats and (4) topcoats should be applied.

6)     Timber is a natural grown product subject to changes due to variations in humidity and temperature. We try to ensure that the timber has been prepared to make it suitable. But is obvious we cannot know the circumstances surrounding every situation in which our products are stored and installed. We cannot know therefore, give any guarantee against shrinkage, warping or splitting. If the timber does shrink or spill it is recommended that it should be filled immediately with a quality wood filler and retreated. Wood filler is commonly used when manufacturing doors, this is standard practice.
